Goldweight; Fish with Decoration (swordfish)
Dublin Core
Title
Goldweight; Fish with Decoration (swordfish)
Culture
Ashanti or Asante
Place Made
Western Africa, Ghana
Description
"The crosspieces on this fish's snout may represent decoration, or they may be identifying this fish as a type of swordfish or sawfish. The incised detail on the fins and the flamboyant flip of the fish's tail may indicate that this goldweight expresses the Asante proverb: 'The animal does not hide and leave its tail sticking out.'"
