Goldweight; Figure with Ibis headdress or mask holding a pole in each hand.

Dublin Core

Title

Goldweight; Figure with Ibis headdress or mask holding a pole in each hand.

Culture

Ashanti or Asante

Place Made

Western Africa, Ghana

Description

Goldweight portrays a figure with a human body and an animalistic headdress. It is unusual because the Asante are one of the few African cultures that do not conduct masked performances so these are not portrayals of Asante people. Research by Rachael Ruzicka, MSU student, 2008, under Dr. Billie Follensbee.
