Description
The Bembe mask features raised, concave ovals around the eyes, along with bulging, oval eyelids. The incised patterns on the eyelids of these masks appear in Bembe art. The light-colored surface of the mask, meanwhile appears to derive form the common central African convention of depicting female beauty through lighter skin tone.
