This project for a Chicago River fire boat house emphasizes the programmatic combination of working spaces for first-responders and public spaces to foster community connections. The building is zoned into ‘hot’ and ‘cool’ zones reflecting these two different functions and types of users. Glass curtain walls emphasize public views of the fire boat, which is placed between the two programmatic zones. A double layer facade allows natural ventilation to participate in the heating and cooling of the facility.
